According to sources cited by the Daily Mail, the new policy would discharge transgender personnel on the grounds of medical unfitness, effectively declaring them “unable” to serve. This mirrors a policy introduced during Trump’s first term, which prohibited new transgender recruits but allowed those already in service to remain.

When President Joe Biden assumed office in 2021, he reversed this ban with an executive order restoring the rights of transgender individuals to serve openly. However, with Trump’s anticipated return to the White House, those rights could once again be at risk.

The proposed executive order would reportedly remove all transgender personnel, regardless of their current military status, and could be signed on Trump’s first day in office, January 20, 2025. If enacted, the order may be even more far-reaching and contentious than the previous ban, potentially affecting around 15,000 transgender individuals currently serving in the U.S. military.

This development occurs amid broader political debates surrounding transgender rights across various sectors.
