The publisher of Ovation Magazine revealed that one of the aspirants had given $30,000 to each of the 774 delegates during the 2022 PDP presidential primary. He added that he would only consider running for president if adopted as a consensus candidate by a major political party.

Momodu remarked, “Experience is the best teacher, and I’ve come to realize that there are powers—what you might call principalities—that control Nigeria. Unless a major party decides to adopt me as a consensus candidate, I won’t contest. But if I have to spend my money to buy a presidential nomination form worth around ₦100 million—and I already spent ₦50 million last time with no votes in return—it feels like a waste.”

He further criticized the extent of monetization in politics, pointing out that some candidates paid up to $30,000 per delegate, making it difficult for ordinary candidates to compete. “They’ve stolen the country blind and are doing all sorts of deals to make money, especially those from the oil-rich areas,” he said.

Momodu emphasized that the immense wealth of some politicians, much of which is hidden and untraceable, gives them an unfair advantage, making it nearly impossible for others to compete.
