UCH Workers Suspend Night Shift Due To Unpaid Electricity Debt, Adopt Daytime Schedule

This move follows a prolonged power outage affecting the hospital, stemming from the disconnection of the facility by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) due to an alleged N495 million debt.
The decision, announced by the Joint Action Committee representing all unions within UCH, aims to address the challenges posed by the absence of electricity, which has persisted for over two weeks. Oludayo Olabampe, Chairman of the Joint Action Committee, emphasized that the reduction in operational hours is a direct response to the critical situation caused by the power outage.
The downscaling of operations is expected to have a significant impact on patient care and hospital functions, raising concerns about the accessibility of medical services during off-hours. Olabampe underscored the urgency of the matter, highlighting the necessity for restoring electricity to the hospital facilities to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
The decision to suspend night shifts reflects the gravity of the situation faced by UCH workers and the broader implications for patient welfare. The Joint Action Committee has reiterated its stance, emphasizing that the reduction in operational hours will persist until the electricity supply is restored to the hospital premises.
