UK To Deport Migrants Overstaying Visas
Migrants who remain in the UK after their visas have expired will face deportation, a government minister has announced, following data indicating that such individuals make up nearly 40% of asylum claims.

UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has ordered an inquiry amid growing concerns that the visa system is being exploited as a pathway to residency.
Border Security Minister Angela Eagle, speaking to Times Radio, noted that the current administration inherited a flawed system, with a 70% decline in processing efficiency and around 100,000 individuals housed in dispersal accommodation or hotels without being processed by the previous government.
Eagle emphasized that many visa holders had initially declared that they could support themselves financially while in the country. When asked whether overstayers would be removed from publicly funded accommodation, she confirmed that they would indeed be deported if found to be overstaying.
In a related development, Prime Minister Keir Starmer convened a summit with representatives from 40 countries to address illegal migration and advocate for global collaboration to combat smuggling networks.
“Illegal migration is a major factor contributing to global insecurity,” Starmer stated. “It compromises our ability to regulate who enters the country and unfairly burdens ordinary working citizens who ultimately bear the consequences.”
The UK government has pledged £33 million to disrupt smuggling operations, including supporting legal actions abroad to curb illegal migration.
