Uncovered Tragedy: NHRC Demands Action For Abisari Civilian Deaths

Kemi Okonyedo, a member of the NHRC Governing Council, made the appeal during the presentation of the investigative panel’s findings on human rights violations during counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

While the Nigerian military was cleared of accusations regarding forced abortions on women, it was found responsible for the killing of civilians in Abisari.

Okonyedo stressed the importance of compensating the victims and their families. “The killing of civilians in Abisari is a serious violation that requires immediate action,” she said. “These are real lives affected, and the suffering of the families and communities must be acknowledged and addressed.”
