US Election: Biden’s Lead over Trump Shrinking, Says Quinnipiac Poll

The trial, related to 34 counts of falsifying business records, commenced last week with jury selection and proceeded to opening arguments this week. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The poll indicates that the presidential race is now in a dead heat, with Biden and Trump tied at 46% support. When independent presidential candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Dr. Cornel West, and the Green Party’s Jill Stein are included, Biden and Trump remain tied at 37%.

These figures represent a significant narrowing of the gap for Trump, who trailed Biden 48%-45% in Quinnipiac’s March poll. With the inclusion of additional candidates, Trump holds a one-point lead over Biden at 39%-38%.

However, Biden’s job approval rating remains low, with only 35% supporting his performance, down from 37% in March. Disapproval stands at 61%, up from 59%.

Regarding the charges Trump faces in his New York trial, 46% believe he did something illegal, while 45% disagree. Additionally, 27% believe he acted unethically but not illegally, and 18% believe he did nothing wrong.

In terms of voting behavior, 21% said they would be less likely to vote for Trump if he were convicted, while 62% said it would not affect their vote, and 15% said they would be more likely to vote for him.

Trump maintains that the trial is politically motivated, labeling it “political persecution” while asserting his innocence.
