Why Tinubu’s Ministers May Not Resume Till September
After a strong start to his presidency with bold policy initiatives, President Bola Tinubu’s administration may face challenges as he approaches his 60-day mark in office.
There are indications that the constitutionally required Federal Executive Council (FEC) might not be constituted until September due to the Senate’s scheduled end-of-session recess. This could result in a nearly four-month gap in the new administration.

While President Tinubu has appointed Special Advisers in some areas, the absence of a constituted FEC might lead to accusations of him following the path of his predecessor, former President Muhammadu Buhari, who took six months to form his cabinet during his first term.
The Senate must receive the list of ministerial nominees by July 27 to comply with the constitutional deadline. Failure to do so could result in a breach of the Constitution and potential impeachment.
Despite optimism from President Tinubu’s supporters that he will salvage the economy, criticism has arisen regarding his numerous foreign trips and the removal of fuel subsidy, leading to rising commodity prices and economic hardship for many Nigerians.
The outcome of President Tinubu’s administration remains uncertain, with both hopes and concerns about his leadership.
