Wike Commends FCT Traditional Rulers, Says They Never Demand Bribes From Contractors

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has praised traditional rulers across the territory for their commitment to development, stating that they do not demand bribes from contractors before projects commence.

According to reports, Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during the inauguration of the newly completed Gomani-Dafa-Yangoji road network in the Kwali Area Council. He said the cooperation of traditional rulers has played a significant role in ensuring that infrastructure projects initiated by the FCT Administration are completed for the benefit of residents.

The road project, spanning about 43 kilometres, was commissioned as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the administration of President Bola Tinubu. The President was represented at the event by Godswill Akpabio.

Wike recalled that the traditional ruler of Kwali had earlier appealed for the construction of the roads, expressing satisfaction that the administration had fulfilled its promise. He appreciated the royal fathers for supporting both the government and contractors throughout the execution of the project.

The minister contrasted the attitude of FCT traditional rulers with what he described as practices in some other parts of the country, where, according to him, certain traditional rulers allegedly prioritize personal benefits from contractors over the successful delivery of public projects. He noted that in the FCT, traditional institutions remain focused on ensuring that projects are completed and serve the interests of the people rather than seeking financial rewards from contractors.

He assured the royal fathers that the Federal Government would continue to execute more developmental projects across their communities, describing their cooperation as a major factor behind the successful implementation of infrastructure initiatives.

Wike also highlighted the speedy completion of the road project, noting that it was awarded in November 2025 and delivered within eight to nine months, well ahead of one year. He said the feat reflected the commitment of the Tinubu administration and the dedication of the contractor to fulfilling promises made to residents.

According to the minister, the timely execution of the project demonstrates that effective governance is driven by commitment, accountability, and collaboration rather than extraordinary measures.
