Hope Uzodimma Commissions Massive NDDC Road Project in Imo as Abubakar Momoh, NDDC MD Reaffirm Commitment to Development
The Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh FNSE, on Thursday, joined Imo State Governor, His Excellency Hope Uzodimma, to commission the 7.6-kilometer Eziama-Abba-Owere Nkworji Road in Nwangele Local Government Area, a project facilitated by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
During the event, Engr. Momoh lauded the NDDC for its consistency in delivering impactful infrastructure projects across the region. He attributed the commission’s success to the peaceful synergy between its board and management, which has enabled the execution of numerous development-driven initiatives.
Commending the NDDC for its unprecedented series of project commissions, Momoh firmly defended the commission’s leadership, stating that there is no justification for dissolving the current board, given its commendable performance. He noted that only internal conflicts between the board and management could warrant such an action.
He further stressed the importance of collaboration between regional development commissions and state governments, urging state authorities to view these commissions as partners rather than competitors in infrastructural development.
Speaking at the event, NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Sam Ogbueku, underscored the commission’s renewed commitment to infrastructural transformation across the Niger Delta. He praised the supervisory role of Minister Momoh, attributing the commission’s accelerated progress to his leadership and direction.
Dr. Ogbueku revealed that the NDDC plans to commission projects nearly every week until July 2025, in commemoration of the agency’s 25th anniversary. He emphasized that this initiative aims to highlight the commission’s achievements while reinforcing its commitment to enhancing the lives of Niger Delta residents, in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, in his remarks, praised the NDDC for its significant contributions to the state’s infrastructural growth, particularly in the construction of quality roads and other transformative projects.
He described the 7.6km Eziama-Abba-Owere Nkworji Road as a testament to the federal government’s dedication to improving road networks in Imo, adding that such projects enhance connectivity, facilitate trade, and boost local economies.
The governor expressed profound gratitude to Minister Abubakar Momoh for his sterling leadership and unwavering commitment to ensuring that the NDDC remains an effective vehicle for development in the Niger Delta.
He acknowledged the minister’s efforts in fostering unity within the NDDC board and management, which have directly translated into massive developmental strides in the region.
Furthermore, Uzodimma commended the NDDC’s Light-Up Project, which has significantly improved security across Imo State. He noted that the installation of streetlights in both rural and urban communities has drastically reduced criminal activities, making roads and public spaces safer for residents while enhancing economic activities at night.
The governor also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assembling a highly competent team, including Minister Momoh and the NDDC leadership, who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to development. He urged the NDDC to continue expanding its interventions in Imo State.
The commissioning of the 7.6-kilometer Eziama-Abba-Owere Nkworji Road further underscores the federal government’s dedication to infrastructure development in the Niger Delta, enhancing connectivity, security, and economic growth in the region.
