Kalu Pushes for African-Controlled Security Framework at EU Parliament

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has lauded the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for the arrest of key suspects in the recent Yeletawa massacre in Benue State, which claimed multiple lives and led to widespread destruction.

Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, confirmed on Tuesday that 53 suspects had been apprehended in connection with attacks in Benue and Plateau states, noting that legal proceedings would begin promptly.

In a statement released Wednesday by Deputy Director of Communication and Media, Paul Odenyi, the NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, praised the rapid response of security operatives, stating it had restored a degree of calm to affected communities and reflected their commitment to safeguarding citizens.

Issa-Onilu emphasized that the arrests serve as a warning to potential offenders and a fulfillment of the National Values Charter, which highlights peace and security as core government obligations. He noted that President Bola Tinubu’s directive during a prior visit to Benue had played a crucial role in mobilizing the security response.

He further commended the collaboration among security agencies, calling it a key factor in tackling Nigeria’s evolving security threats and ensuring justice is served.
