2023: All Eyes On Ogbedie-Ihama As Reps Member Becomes Rallying Point For Edo South Senatorial District
The PDP in Edo South has proven to be a formidable party in recent elections, winning Federal elections even while they were in opposition to the ruling APC.
For example, the Oredo Federal constituency has long been seen as a rallying point for federal legislators, and no member of the House of Representatives has ever served two terms in a row in Oredo.
Oredo, as the state’s cradle of political knowledge, has a very enlightened electorate that is hard to please and requires a high level of performance to influence them.
Rt Hon Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama broke the jinx when he was re-elected to serve the people of Oredo Federal Constituency for a record second term, and he did it under the Peoples Democratic Party.
Ogbedie-Ihama, who has worked tirelessly to keep Oredo constituents’ trust, is once again on the verge of making history, as the affable young politician has announced his intention to run for the Senate in order to have more opportunities to serve the people of Edo South.
Hon Ihama is confident in embarking on the big stage, with so many noteworthy achievements in terms of legislative obligations and excellent representation, including infrastructure delivery, human capacity development, multiple empowerment programs, and other democratic dividends.
In 2020, the youths of Edo South rallied together to support the legislator in his bid for the state governorship seat, hoping to replicate his accomplishments in Oredo Federal Constituency. They worked hard for his ambition and gave it their all.
On the eve of the Gubernatorial primaries, Rt Hon Ogbeide-Ihama had to make way for Godwin Obaseki to become the party’s flagbearer after the Governor lost it in a battle of wits in the APC, which resulted in his disqualification from running for the ticket.
The decent people of Edo South are once again rallying behind his senatorial campaign so that he can expand his excellent activities to other constituencies within the senatorial district.
All eyes will be on the Federal legislator to watch how he performs in his bid to become the PDP’s Edo South Senatorial candidate, as he takes on incumbent Sen Matthew Uroghide, who is facing opposition from party members over his third term ambition.
Ogbeide-Ihama has been credited to be a strong grassroots mobilizer in Edo South and his senatorial ambition would be anchored on the strength of his street credibility and political savviness.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed as the PDP approaches its primary elections to nominate its National Assembly members.
