7,800 Civil Servants In Jigawa State Face Salary Loss Over Verification Issues

Following a Joint Emergency State Executive Council meeting convened by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), a communique highlighted the pressing issues faced by workers. NLC Chairperson Sanusi Alhassan urged the state government to address the challenges and ensure that unverified workers receive their salaries through the old system until they are successfully captured and verified.

In response, the state Deputy Governor, Aminu Usman, clarified that 7,783 workers remain unverified, with 4,496 J-teach workers already screened by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). He assured that efforts are underway to screen the remaining permanent and pensionable workers promptly.

Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, Usman emphasized that unverified workers who have not yet been enrolled in IPPMS have received their salaries through the old system to prevent financial hardships. This temporary measure aims to mitigate the impact on affected workers while verification processes continue.

The situation underscores the importance of effective implementation and management of payroll systems to ensure timely and accurate salary payments to civil servants. As stakeholders collaborate to address verification challenges, the welfare of workers remains a top priority in Jigawa State.
