Notable contenders in the November 11, 2023 poll in Kogi include Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Party (ADC), Dino Melaye of the PDP, and Usman Ododo of the APC, a former Auditor General of Local Government in Kogi under Governor Yahaya Bello, who is concluding his double terms of eight years.
On Saturday, Dino Melaye had raised concerns about “filled result sheets” in the Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi, calling for the suspension of the exercise due to reported incidents of violence and vote buying. Subsequently, INEC suspended the election in nine wards in the local government area.
Parallel to the Kogi elections, governorship polls were conducted in Bayelsa State and Imo State on Saturday, resulting in Governor Hope Uzodimma of the APC emerging victorious in Imo against Samuel Anyanwu of the PDP, Labour Party (LP)’s Nneji Achonu, and 15 other opponents. Uzodimma secured 540,308 votes, outpacing PDP’s Anyanwu with 71,503 votes and LP’s Achonu with 64,081 votes.
