In a statement to the press in Abeokuta, Sowunmi emphasized that the combination of divisive tribal narratives in government policies and Nigeria’s precarious economic situation has made the country more vulnerable than ever.

He cautioned that excessive tribalism and regional politics, alongside global economic pressures, could destabilize the nation. “Nigeria is in its most fragile state since 1914,” he warned, adding that the ongoing political struggles and lack of cohesive governance under President Bola Tinubu were threatening the unity of the country.

Sowunmi called for responsible engagement between the political leaders and the citizenry, stressing the importance of constructive discussions that would strengthen democracy.
