Fayose Vows to Defeat Oyebanji in 2026, Accuses Him of Wasting Ekiti’s Resources

A governorship hopeful under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Emmanuel Fayose, has criticised Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration, pledging to oust him in the 2026 election.

Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Saturday during a tour of Ado and Irepodun/Ifelodun local government areas, Fayose accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) governor of neglecting the people’s welfare while focusing on securing endorsements for a second term.

Fayose lamented widespread hunger and underdevelopment in Ekiti, questioning how Oyebanji has utilised the state’s monthly federal allocations.

“The question Ekiti people should keep asking Oyebanji is, what has he done with the allocations coming to the state?” Fayose said. “There’s severe hunger and poverty here. What Ekiti now gets is almost four times what it used to receive, yet there’s nothing to show. Nearly three years into his tenure, no major project has been commissioned. Ekiti is stagnant under this government.”

He described the governor’s endorsements for re-election as nothing more than distractions meant to sway voters, insisting they would not stop Oyebanji’s defeat at the polls.

In response, APC’s Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, dismissed Fayose’s comments, branding him an “attention seeker” who relied on lies for political gain.

Dipe said, “Fayose is only making noise. He can’t be right while the entire people of Ekiti are wrong. The people have seen the governor’s good work, and it’s too late to turn them against him.”

He urged Fayose to tour the state and see Oyebanji’s achievements for himself, suggesting it was unfortunate he remained “blind” to the developments under the current administration.
