Governor Okpebholo’s Appointments Branded Illegal And Illegitimate By PDP

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Chris Osa Nehikhare, the Publicity Secretary of the party’s Caretaker Committee, the PDP highlighted concerns about Okpebholo’s appointment of a Chairperson for the State Universal Basic Education Board (Edo SUBEB), claiming it disregarded established legal and procedural frameworks.

In the statement, Nehikhare said:

“We are deeply concerned by the actions of Governor-elect Monday Okpebholo, who has appointed a Chairperson for Edo SUBEB in clear violation of the procedures outlined in governance laws.”

The PDP noted that the appointment process for the SUBEB Chairperson requires the constitution of a board with representatives from Edo’s three senatorial districts. Additionally, the nominee must meet specific qualification criteria and secure confirmation from the Edo State House of Assembly.

Nehikhare added:

“Declaring the appointment effective immediately without following due process is both illegal and illegitimate. While he may face pressure from his political allies to reward loyalties, governance must adhere to established laws and procedures.”

The PDP urged Governor Okpebholo to respect the people of Edo State and ensure all appointments are conducted transparently and in line with legal frameworks.
