In response to the backlash, Oba Lawal’s media aide, Tijani Adekilekun, clarified that the gesture was a mark of respect. He explained that due to the Emir’s age or personal reasons, he remained seated during greetings. Consequently, Oba Lawal bent down to ensure clear communication, not as an act of subservience.
Adekilekun emphasized that the Timi of Ede’s actions were misinterpreted and urged the public to refrain from ridiculing the revered stool of Timi. He highlighted the importance of understanding cultural nuances and respecting traditional protocols in such interactions.
This incident has reignited discussions about the appropriate conduct between traditional rulers, especially concerning gestures of respect and their interpretations within different cultural contexts.
