Musa pointed out that some traditional rulers and members of the Okuama community were complicit in the ambush and murder of the soldiers, indicating that although they may not have directly participated in the killings, they were aware of what was happening.

The tragic incident, which occurred on March 14, saw militants targeting soldiers, including the Commanding Officer of 181 Amphibious Battalion, two majors, one captain, and 12 personnel. Musa, speaking in an interview with ARISE NEWS, emphasized that the military operation in the area was meticulously planned and restrained, despite the severity of the attack.

He highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by militants profiting from oil theft in the Niger Delta, asserting that the soldiers’ efforts to combat crude oil theft were met with resistance, leading to the heinous act.

While acknowledging the surrender of the Ovie of Ewu Kingdom, Clement Ikolo Ogenerukeywe, who was declared wanted in connection with the killings, Musa assured that the monarch’s safety is ensured during the interrogation process.
