Nigerians Urged to Embrace 6G Tech Shift Ahead of 2030 Rollout

Professor Olumide Adewale, a computing expert at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, has called on Nigerian students and technology enthusiasts to begin preparing for the upcoming 6G network revolution, expected to become operational by 2030.

Speaking during a lecture at the School of Computing, McPherson University, Ogun State, Prof. Adewale delivered a keynote titled “Innovating the Digital Future: Trends in Computing Technology.” He stated that 6G is projected to be 100 times faster than the current 5G technology.

According to him, the new network will significantly enhance digital communication, enabling real-time, immersive 3D experiences and accelerating advancements in the metaverse. He added that sectors such as education, mobility, healthcare, and e-commerce would benefit immensely.

“6G will reshape how we connect and interact online — not just with each other, but with computers as well,” he noted. He further encouraged students to embrace ethics, adaptability, and collaboration as core values for navigating the digital age.

In his remarks, Dr. Emmanuel Ibam, Acting Dean of the Computing Department, said the lecture was organized to bridge academic learning with real-world technology trends. He revealed that a student recently secured a $5,000 grant, and a lecturer is preparing to represent Nigeria in an international tech programme.

The event also featured a student-led tech fair, with standout innovations earning cash prizes.
