Nigeria’s Woes Aren’t Tinubu’s Fault’ – APC’s Na’Allah Speaks Out
According to Ireporter Online, Senator Bala Na’Allah, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged Nigerians to refrain from blaming the country’s presidents for the challenges facing the nation.
Na’Allah made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’, where he highlighted the limitations imposed by Nigeria’s constitutional structure. He argued that the system is designed to distribute responsibility across multiple actors, making it unfair to hold a single individual accountable for the nation’s difficulties.
He emphasised that while there are factors hindering the smooth functioning of government, citizens often direct their frustrations solely at the president. “We have a political class that has been given one of the best documents—the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria—as a framework for governance. This framework has the capacity to translate our intentions for the generality of Nigerians,” he said.
Na’Allah added that the framers of the constitution intended for elected officials to uphold democratic principles and implement its spirit. “The biggest problem we have is that every president that comes, after some time Nigerians will say, we are not satisfied. But what Nigerians have failed to understand is the reason behind this. There must be something somewhere working against the smooth running of the affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, yet all of us have chosen not to examine it; we would rather say, ‘it is Mr President,’” he said.
He concluded by urging citizens to study the constitution and the oaths of office taken by elected officials, noting that the failure to adhere to these principles contributes to governance challenges in Nigeria.
