Okunniyi Explains Why Patriots Refuse to Join Coalition Against Tinubu in 2027

According to Naija News, Okunniyi made this statement in response to ongoing efforts by opposition figures, including former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, to form a coalition against Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Okunniyi emphasized that The Patriots is focused on fostering a better Nigeria rather than engaging in political battles. He noted that the organization is committed to advocating for a constitution that truly represents the aspirations of Nigeria’s diverse population.

“Our Advocacy and Mobilisation Committee has enlisted strong voices from all six geopolitical zones to rally key stakeholders and the public in support of a new democratic constitution,” Okunniyi stated.

He further revealed that regional advocacy committees, established since November last year, have been actively strategizing and will officially launch nationwide outreach campaigns in April.

Addressing concerns about a possible link between The Patriots and opposition coalitions, Okunniyi stressed that the group remains a neutral body of distinguished Nigerians dedicated to national progress.

“The Patriots is a non-partisan, pan-Nigerian intervention group comprising statesmen and thought leaders committed to drafting a constitution that ensures fairness and unity. As such, we do not engage in partisan politics,” he asserted.

It is worth noting that The Patriots had previously engaged with President Tinubu, advocating for a legitimate federal constitution that would foster national inclusivity and development.
