Osun Election: ‘I Wonder What People Would Say If Results Were Different’ – Davido
Nigerian Afrobeats singer and producer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has praised youths in Osun State for their support during the recent governorship election, saying their participation helped restore confidence in the electoral process.
According to Ireporter Online, Davido spoke with journalists in Ede on Tuesday amid celebrations following the victory of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, in the election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Adeleke the winner of the August 15 governorship poll.
Reflecting on the outcome, Davido said he wondered what the reaction across the country would have been if the election result had gone in a different direction.
The singer commended Osun youths for following the electoral process from the polling units through the wards and local government areas to the collation centre.
He said their conduct had given residents of Osun and Nigerians generally renewed hope in the democratic process, while also providing INEC with another opportunity to strengthen public confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Davido, however, dismissed speculation that his active involvement in the election was connected to plans to pursue a political career.
The singer, who currently serves as Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, said he had no political ambition and remained focused on contributing to the development of the state through entertainment and youth empowerment.
He disclosed plans to organise a major concert in Osun after Adeleke’s inauguration in December, with an opportunity for young talents from the state to perform alongside established artistes.
Davido also revealed plans for a recreational centre that would provide entertainment and engagement opportunities for young people across the state.
According to him, the proposed initiative could attract thousands of youths every month, giving them productive activities and helping to keep them away from the streets.
The singer further called for unity and forgiveness among the people of Osun, stressing that reconciliation would be necessary to promote peace and development following the election.
He urged residents to put political differences aside and work together in the interest of the state.
