In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Okai, who contested as the House of Representatives candidate for Dekina/Bassa in the 2023 elections, emphasized the importance of holding Bello accountable for the alleged misappropriation of funds, despite his efforts in safeguarding the state.

He referenced a previous court order issued by Justice Tijani Ringim on August 31, 2021, which froze government accounts following an ex-parte application filed by the EFCC. The application was based on credible intelligence suggesting the diversion of funds from the Kogi State Salary Bailout Account.

Okai highlighted the urgency of prosecuting Bello, especially in light of recent developments where the former governor was implicated in an ongoing corruption case. Although Bello has yet to be formally charged, his nephew and an associate were accused of diverting funds belonging to the Kogi government.

The PDP chieftain stressed the need for vigilance and support for the EFCC’s efforts in bringing Bello to justice, emphasizing that accountability and transparency in governance are paramount for the well-being of Kogi State.

He refuted claims by the Kogi State Government that the allegations against Bello were false, reiterating the importance of upholding the rule of law and demanding accountability from public officials.

Okai concluded by affirming that his call to action was driven by a commitment to good governance and fiscal probity, urging citizens to remain vigilant in holding leaders accountable for their actions
