Reports from ireporteronline indicate that the recent meeting between Atiku and Obi in Yola reignited discussions about a united front for the 2027 presidential elections. The meeting occurred during the 20th-anniversary celebration of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), owned by Atiku, where Obi was the keynote speaker.

Although representatives of both politicians downplayed any political motives behind the meeting, social media users speculated about its significance amid ongoing challenges within the Labour Party and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Theo Agada, a user on X, suggested, “Repeat the 2019 ticket and promise to do one term. Then watch the Nigerian people do their thing.” Similarly, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the LP’s Lagos governorship candidate, called for a united opposition to address the nation’s current challenges.

Meanwhile, Doyin Okupe, a former campaign director for Peter Obi, shared his perspective on the meeting, emphasizing the flexible nature of politics: “No permanent friends, no permanent enemies, only permanent interests!”

In response to the speculations, Shehu clarified that no discussions about the 2027 elections or a merger took place during the meeting. He stated, “There was no conversation around 2027. Obi was simply welcomed to Yola, where he delivered a powerful lecture. However, Oga (Atiku) has been advocating for a coalition of opposition leaders since the 2023 elections. When the time is right, their positions will be made clear.”
