Politics2027 Coalition: Atiku, Tambuwal, David Mark, Lamido, Others Strategize To Oust Tinubu

A renewed call has gone out to Nigerians and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rally behind an emerging opposition coalition aimed at dislodging President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

This was contained in a communiqué released on Tuesday following a high-level meeting convened in Abuja by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The gathering brought together key PDP figures, including ex-Senate President David Mark, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, and several other party stalwarts.

The meeting’s resolution, signed by David Mark, stressed the urgent need for all opposition forces to close ranks, form a united coalition and rescue the nation from what they described as the APC’s disastrous leadership.

“The gathering encourages all patriotic PDP members and other Nigerians to align with this coalition,” the communiqué stated. It highlighted that the coalition would prioritize issues of national unity, security, economic revival, democracy and the political will to eradicate corruption.

It further noted that modalities would be worked out to secure victories at both local and national levels.

The leaders expressed deep concern over the internal crisis plaguing the PDP, blaming it on the party leadership’s failure to uphold its constitution and internal regulations. They also accused the APC-led federal government of weaponizing state institutions to undermine democracy and stifle the opposition.

“The PDP, once the embodiment of discipline and leadership that stabilized Nigeria and elevated its global standing, has now been reduced to a chaotic shadow of its former self,” the statement added. It also lamented that the APC has turned to blackmail and inducements to force defections from the PDP, causing further instability.

Describing the APC administration as a “disaster,” the communiqué asserted that life in Nigeria has become unbearable, with developmental indices collapsing under the current government.

Among the prominent PDP figures at the meeting were former National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus, ex-Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi). Others included Senator Ben Obi, Josephine Anenih, Senator Austin Akobundu, Kola Ologbondiyan, and Abdullahi Maibasira.

The opposition leaders pledged to continue consultations in the coming weeks to consolidate efforts ahead of the 2027 polls.
