Olutimain Ilenre, an individual, has explained the reason behind his decision to burn his original certificates, which included his Bachelor of Arts, secondary school certificate, NYSC certificate, and JAMB certificate.

In a video shared on social media on Monday, the History and International Studies graduate from Ajayi Crowther University stated that the lack of employment opportunities compelled him to take this drastic step. He expressed that the current state of the country rendered his certificates seemingly useless.

“To get certificate in this country is like a waste of time,” he lamented.

Ilenre additionally emphasized that when traveling abroad, the certificates lose their relevance. Reflecting on the past week, he shared that he had been unable to sleep, realizing that for the past 13 years, none of the jobs he had undertaken required his certificates.

In light of the current circumstances in the country, he offered advice, suggesting that individuals should acquire practical skills. He urged parents to empower their children to learn crafts and trades as a more practical and valuable pursuit.

“I finished school in 2010 and did my NYSC in 2010/2011; till today, I haven’t used these certificates to get a job,” Ilenre said.
