Sagay, who previously chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) during Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, criticized Governor Ododo’s actions in shielding Bello from arrest, stating that they constituted an abuse of the immunity privilege enjoyed by the governor.

The EFCC had laid siege to the residence of the former governor, Bello, in Abuja, alleging financial misappropriation and corruption amounting to N80.2 billion. However, Governor Ododo reportedly arrived at the scene and facilitated Bello’s escape from arrest by the anti-graft agency.

Speaking to TheCable, Sagay condemned Governor Ododo’s actions, asserting that he had no right to extend immunity to others and that aiding Bello’s escape was illegal and unconstitutional. He commended the EFCC officials for exercising restraint in handling the situation and refraining from engaging in physical confrontation with the governor’s security team.

Sagay emphasized that Governor Ododo’s actions amounted to harboring a fugitive, constituting a criminal offense. He advised Bello to voluntarily surrender to the EFCC to avoid humiliation, stressing that hiding would only tarnish his image further and ultimately lead to his apprehension by the anti-corruption agency.

In conclusion, Sagay urged Bello to submit himself to the EFCC in a responsible manner to preserve his dignity and facilitate due process in the investigation. He cautioned that regardless of Bello’s actions, the EFCC would eventually apprehend him, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with law enforcement authorities.
