Seyi made this request yesterday during the inaugural Alhaji Lateef Jakande annual memorial lecture for 2023, which was organized by the Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE) and held in Lagos.

In attendance at the event were notable figures including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, former Governor of Ogun State Olusegun Osoba, former military Governor of Old Imo State Gen. Ike Nwachukwu (retired), and former Managing Director of The Guardian Lade Bonuola.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, sent his Deputy, Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, to represent him. The governor praised Jakande’s remarkable character, expressing, “Jakande was a person of admirable qualities, and his departure left us saddened. We must acknowledge God’s blessing for giving us such a man. It’s truly commendable that the NGE chose to honor him.”
