Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, and his team from the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Egbetokun emphasized the importance of third-party insurance for all vehicle owners. He noted that the enforcement of Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Section 312 of the 1945 Motor Vehicle Act is vital for protecting citizens from damages and injuries arising from road accidents.

The IGP revealed alarming statistics from the Nigeria Insurance Association, showing that less than 30% of vehicles on Nigerian roads are insured. In response, he pledged intensified efforts to ensure compliance, stating, “This law protects all Nigerians, and its enforcement is in everyone’s interest.”

Egbetokun warned that failure to comply could result in fines, imprisonment, or both. He urged Nigerians to adhere to the law and assured continued collaboration between the police and other agencies to protect lives and property.

The Commissioner for Insurance praised the IGP’s achievements, particularly the establishment of the Police Insurance Bank Limited, and highlighted the benefits of compulsory third-party insurance for all road users.

This renewed focus on vehicle insurance enforcement marks a significant step toward ensuring road safety and accountability across the country.
