Oil Industry Collapse Behind Today’s Hardships, EFA Claims
A group of lawmakers’ call for the retention of the leaderships of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd and the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has drawn fierce criticism from the Economic Freedom Assembly (EFA).
The EFA accused the lawmakers, led by Hon. Billy Famous Osawaru (Edo State), of working against the people’s interests and demanded their resignation.
The group cited the alleged incompetence, corruption, and mismanagement in Nigeria’s oil industry have exacerbated the country’s economic woes.
The EFA’s statement, signed by Dr. Pedro Osahon and Comrade Isah Suleiman Kadiri, emphasized that the lawmakers’ actions disconnect from the people’s suffering.
They attributed the current hardship, hunger, and anger to the failure and corruption in the oil industry.
The EFA urged the lawmakers to resign and allow the NNPC and NMDPRA chiefs to step down, warning of public disgrace if they fail.
The group insisted that the resignations were necessary for the country’s greater good, citing the need to recognize public sentiment. They warned that continued support for the duo would ultimately lead to abandonment and disgrace.
The EFA urged the lawmakers to resign voluntarily or face public disgrace, similar to the former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
EFA said, “The recent declaration of support for the heads of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd and the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority is against the interests of the people and self-serving.
“The actions of those involved demonstrate that they are working against the people’s interests while holding positions of honour. Money has exchanged hands and the actors are out to do rubbish.
“Instead of trying to provoke the anger of the people, they should resign and return to their federal constituencies, allowing these individuals to step down. They need to recognize the public sentiment and step down for the greater good of the country.
“We urge them to resign voluntarily or be disgraced like the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.”
