Fire Guts Shops In Iseyin, Millions Lost In Oyo Blaze

A fire outbreak has destroyed property worth millions of naira after engulfing shops in the Iseyin area of Oyo State.

The incident, which occurred at Sawmill Abaletu along Saki Road in Iseyin, affected three shops, according to reports gathered by Daily Post. Fortunately, no lives were lost.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday. He explained that the fire was reported at exactly 3:54 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025.

Responding swiftly, a team led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Azeez arrived at the scene to find three shops already consumed by flames. The firefighters quickly launched efforts to contain the blaze and successfully prevented it from spreading to nearby shops and properties.

In total, seven shops and other adjoining structures were saved from the inferno.

Akinwande attributed the cause of the fire to negligence on the part of a phone repair technician who failed to switch off and unplug one of his work tools after closing for the day. The equipment reportedly ignited flammable materials nearby, resulting in the fire outbreak.

Authorities are once again urging business owners to prioritize safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
