INEC Flags Off Ekiti 2026 Governorship Election, Pledges Transparency

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the electoral process for the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, following the issuance of a statutory notice on Wednesday.

This was confirmed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ekiti State, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, during a stakeholders’ meeting with representatives of political parties held in Ado-Ekiti. He stressed that the commission remains fully committed to transparency and integrity throughout the entire election process—before, during, and after the poll.

Dr. Omoseyindemi explained that the issuance of the election notice aligns with the Electoral Act, which mandates that such a notice must be released at least 360 days before the election date. The governorship election in Ekiti has been scheduled for July 20, 2026.
