2023:Osinbajo’s Presidency Takes Centre Stage As Kwankwanso Reportedly Set To Run With VP

A third force is a political bloc that will serve as a counterbalance to the two dominant parties in power. Nigerians across the political spectrum have long wished for a third force to hold the APC and the PDP accountable.

According to reports, a third force is required to address public perceptions that both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lack direction. However, as public demand for a third force grows, the question of who should comprise the third force arises.

The most recent rumour circulating is that the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and the current NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso, the former governor of Kano State, have a working arrangement.

The rumors are loud and noteworthy; however, if this combination becomes a reality, what impact will it have on the current political chess game?

Here is how the story would play out if Osinbajo joins the NNPP as its presidential candidate and Kwankwanso agrees to be his running mate as the claim is currently making the rounds.

The South West, which was previously the sole territory of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would now have to accommodate Osinbajo, causing a schism in the region, to the detriment of Tinubu, who is currently the only presidential candidate from the South West zone.

Now, if you look closely before the APC primaries, Osinbajo had a very high rating from the same set of supporters who are now showing their support for Peter Obi, indicating that Southern Christians are fully in support of a Christian presidential aspirant from the zone.

As a result, the NNPP would immediately gain traction in the South West, and Osinbajo, as a sitting Vice President, would be able to draw sympathy votes from the region. Osinbajo’s candidacy would also help the NNPP gain support in the South-South and South-East.

Then, up North, it would be another battleground for the presidency, as Kwankwanso would provide the necessary balance for the North to trust Osinbajo, and lastly  Osinbajo would also compete for popularity with the Jagaban.

The frenzy created by Peter Obi’s departure from the PDP would be the same frenzy created by Osinbajo’s departure from the APC, which would be a blow to the APC because the party would then have its own fair share of party membership split, creating an intriguing presidential contest.

Will Osinbajo be able to deal with the backlash from South West Yoruba leaders who prefer Tinubu’s candidacy over any other South West candidate?

In fact, if this information proves to be accurate, the entire race would change completely, with the pendulum potentially swinging in any direction.
