APC Stakeholders Criticize Makinde Over ₦63.5 Billion Agodi Renovation Plan

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the outer city region of Ibadanland, Oyo State, have strongly criticized Governor Seyi Makinde over what they described as reckless government spending, particularly the proposed ₦63.5 billion allocated for renovating the Agodi Government House.

The stakeholders voiced their concerns during their quarterly meeting held on Wednesday at the APC Secretariat in Egbeda Local Government Area. In a communique issued after the meeting, they warned the governor against financial irresponsibility, especially in light of Oyo State’s mounting public debt, which they claimed is nearing ₦500 billion.

They questioned the justification for the staggering renovation cost and raised further concerns about another major expenditure—the ₦14.3 billion allocated for the purchase of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) for the ongoing upgrade of Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan. According to them, the state had previously committed ₦42 billion to the airport project, with an additional ₦10 billion released later.

Despite the state reportedly receiving over ₦22 billion in federal allocations and generating nearly ₦10 billion monthly internally, the APC leaders argued that Oyo cannot be considered financially stable. They insisted that instead of spending lavishly, the government should focus on long-term, sustainable development, especially in the wake of fuel subsidy removal, which has increased state revenues.

The communique was signed by prominent APC figures including Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe (JP), Rasaki Akilapa, Lekan Adeyemo, Sule Suara, Alhaji Isiaka Alimi, Hon. Kunle Jenrade, Moshood Erubami, Muniru Adebayo, Yinka Folarin, and Bashorun Billy Ogundele. Senator Yunus Akintunde of Oyo Central Senatorial District was also present at the meeting to show support for the party’s leadership and their stance on fiscal prudence.
