[BREAKING] 2023 Elections: INEC Chairman Yakubu Told To Resign, IGP, DSS, EFCC Told To Commence Investigation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, resign, be arrested, and investigated for alleged manipulation of the February 25 presidential election result.

In a close race, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party lost to Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). While Atiku received 6,984,520 votes to finish second in the race, Tinubu received significant votes in 12 of Nigeria’s 36 states and received significant votes in several other states to receive the most votes — 8,794,726.

Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate who galvanised young voters in an unprecedented manner in less than a year, finished the race with 6,101,533.

Both Atiku and Obi have declared that the election result will be challenged in court.

Speaking during a press conference on Friday in Abuja, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mister Debo Ologunagba alleged that the election results were mutilated, as the commission deliberately refused to transmit polling units results as provided by the Electoral Act.

He insisted that the departure of the INEC Chairman would be the first step toward restoring trust in the electoral body.

Ologunagba also asked the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (INEC) to commence an investigation of the INEC Chairman.
