British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua turned down offers worth millions of dollars more in order to pursue a potential blockbuster fight against Tyson Fury in the United Kingdom.

The proposed all-British heavyweight showdown between Joshua and Fury has remained one of boxing’s most anticipated fights, although negotiations and differing career plans have repeatedly prevented the bout from taking place.

Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn said Joshua could have earned substantially more by agreeing to stage the fight in the United States but opted to prioritise having the contest in Britain.

“Dana White has tried to get involved in a fight that he has nothing to do with,” Hearn said.

He added that Joshua and his team had remained committed to the terms of their agreement and wanted the proposed clash to take place in Britain.

“Anthony Joshua could have taken many millions more to do the fight in America. We want the fight in Britain,” Hearn stated.

According to the promoter, strong public support for the potential bout, particularly on social media, has further strengthened their resolve to stage the fight in the UK.

“The support that we’ve had on social media, my social media, A.J.’s social media, has made us double down on our principles on this. We’re not trying to hurt the fight,” he added.
