Police Tighten Security As Shettima Arrives In Adamawa
Vice President Kashim Shettima is expected in Adamawa State on Thursday to lead a Federal Government delegation on a condolence visit following the death of elder statesman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
According to reports, Shettima will pay his respects to the late former minister and condole with the Adamawa State Government, the Adamawa Emirate Council and Tukur’s immediate family.
Ahead of the visit, the Adamawa State Police Command has deployed personnel and specialised units across Yola to strengthen security and ensure the smooth movement of the Vice President and his delegation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, ordered the deployment of operational assets to strategic locations within the state capital.
He said personnel from the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Intelligence Unit and Traffic Unit, alongside Divisional Police Officers, had been mobilised for the visit.
Nguroje added that the police had also commenced traffic diversions and stop-and-search operations in and around Yola as part of measures to maintain security during the Vice President’s visit.
The command urged residents to cooperate with security personnel and remain law-abiding throughout the visit.
The police spokesperson also warned individuals planning to cause disturbances to stay away from the venues of the Vice President’s activities, stressing that the command would take action against anyone attempting to breach the peace.
The command further urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or movements to the nearest police station or through the police emergency lines.
Meanwhile, Tukur’s residence in Yola has continued to attract mourners, with sympathisers visiting to offer condolences to his family and the people of Adamawa State following his death at the age of 90.
Tukur died last Saturday and was buried in Yola on Sunday.
