CAN Condemns Killing Of 13 Ebonyi Indigenes In Anambra, Urges Swift Justice
The Ebonyi State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by Rev. Dr. Scamb Nwokolo, has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of 13 Ebonyi natives living in Ogbuoji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The tragic incident occurred on June 30, 2025, during the victims’ routine monthly gathering, when unidentified attackers launched an unprovoked and brutal assault.
Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, Rev. Nwokolo expressed profound shock and sorrow over what he termed a barbaric act that represents a grave affront to humanity.
“This despicable incident is deeply regrettable and points to a dangerous slide back into lawlessness, where basic human rights are trampled upon,” he stated.
The CAN chairman questioned the conscience of the assailants, wondering how anyone could contemplate such a heinous attack on innocent, unarmed people.
Rev. Nwokolo extended heartfelt sympathies to the Ebonyi State Government and particularly to the bereaved families, urging the Anambra State Government to act decisively in tracking down and prosecuting the perpetrators.
While acknowledging that no compensation could ever truly replace lost lives, he called on both Ebonyi and Anambra State governments to implement measures that would ease the burden on the affected families.
He further appealed to residents of Anambra State to embrace unity and work collectively to curb the rising tide of violence in the region.
Meanwhile, special prayers were offered for the repose of the souls of the slain victims.
