Dickson Slams Akpabio for Violating Senate Protocol During Tinubu’s Democracy Day Address

Bayelsa West Senator, Seriake Dickson, has strongly criticized the conduct of Senate President Godswill Akpabio during President Bola Tinubu’s Democracy Day address to the National Assembly on Thursday.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the event, Dickson claimed that Akpabio infringed on his constitutional right as a Senator by rushing through President Tinubu’s letters and refusing to acknowledge his attempt to raise a constitutional matter. He condemned the act, stating that such behavior aligns more with military dictatorship than democratic practice.

The former Bayelsa governor lamented that his right to intervene on a matter of constitutional significance was blatantly ignored by the Senate President, which he described as a clear breach of legislative process.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu’s Democracy Day speech has drawn backlash from various quarters, with critics arguing that the address lacked depth and failed to acknowledge the hardships currently faced by Nigerians. Rather than confronting national crises such as insecurity, many accused Tinubu of prioritizing political jabs at opposition parties.
