DJ Chicken Regains Freedom After Meeting Bail Conditions

Controversial Nigerian content creator, Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has regained his freedom after fulfilling the bail conditions set by a Lagos Magistrate Court in connection with charges bordering on alleged cybercrime, breach of peace and threats to kill.

According to Ireporter Online, the social media personality was released days after he was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre following his arraignment before a Magistrate Court in the Ogba area of Lagos State.

His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed the development on Tuesday through a post on his Instagram Story, expressing gratitude over his client’s release.

Human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, also announced the development on his account, revealing that DJ Chicken had reunited with his family, friends and loved ones. Sowore maintained that no individual should be subjected to oppression while others remain silent, adding that the fight against injustice must continue regardless of those involved.

Moments after regaining his freedom, DJ Chicken appeared in a livestream shared on Instagram, where he was seen inside a vehicle smiling and engaging with his followers. His lawyer was also present during the livestream, with clips from the broadcast quickly circulating across several social media platforms.

DJ Chicken was arraigned after prosecutors accused him of making alleged threats against Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, in a viral video. He faces a three-count charge relating to alleged violations of the Cybercrimes Act, breach of peace and making threats to kill.

The prosecution alleged that the content creator made comments suggesting President Bola Tinubu would not secure re-election in the 2027 general election and also made remarks interpreted as threats against the President’s son.

Following public backlash, DJ Chicken apologised for the statements, insisting they were intended as a joke aimed at attracting attention and boosting his online popularity. Despite the apology, he was arrested, charged before the court and pleaded not guilty to all the allegations.

The court subsequently granted him bail in the sum of ₦1 million with two sureties in like sum. It further ruled that one surety must be a civil servant while the other must be a recognised community leader with landed property in Lagos State. Both sureties were directed to provide three years’ tax clearance certificates, utility bills, National Identification Number (NIN) details and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency documentation. In addition, one of the sureties was required to be a blood relative of the defendant.

The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for the continuation of proceedings. Although the court initially ordered his remand pending the perfection of his bail conditions, DJ Chicken has now been released after complying with all the requirements.
