Emefiele’s Empire Crumbles! FG Set to Sell Off Ex-CBN Governor’s Confiscated Properties

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, has announced that the federal government will sell 753 houses confiscated from former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele.

According to reports, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) formally handed over the properties—comprising duplexes and other residential units situated in the Cadastral Zone of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)—to the federal government on Tuesday.

In a statement issued later that evening, Dangiwa confirmed that the recovered estate would be completed and made available to Nigerians through a transparent and accountable sales process.

“This is a major step in the government’s effort to ensure that recovered assets are not abandoned but repurposed into functional infrastructure that benefits citizens,” Dangiwa stated.

He explained that the next phase would involve a thorough structural and integrity assessment of all buildings and infrastructure to guarantee they are safe and fit for habitation. The ministry also plans to complete key infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, and other essential amenities to make the estate fully operational.

Dangiwa further revealed that a standardized housing design framework would be introduced to maintain architectural consistency and guide future homeowners.

The homes will be sold through a competitive and well-publicized process, managed via the Renewed Hope Portal.

“Working with the EFCC, we aim to demonstrate that the fight against corruption can yield tangible results—transforming looted assets into decent housing for Nigerians,” he added.
