The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reaffirmed the strength and stability of the nation’s banking sector, urging the public to disregard misleading reports circulating on social media.
In a statement issued by Hakama Sidi-Ali, Acting Director of Corporate Communications, the apex bank dismissed claims targeting a regulated financial institution, asserting that all licensed banks, including the one referenced, remain in full compliance with regulatory standards designed to safeguard depositors’ funds.
“The CBN categorically assures Nigerians, depositors, and stakeholders that the country’s banking sector remains robust, secure, and stable,” Sidi-Ali stated.
She reiterated the Bank’s commitment to stringent supervision of financial institutions through comprehensive regulatory frameworks that help identify potential risks early and ensure they are promptly mitigated.
“These mechanisms enable the CBN to proactively manage any emerging issues, thereby preserving the integrity and resilience of the financial system,” she added.
The public was urged to ignore alarmist or unverified claims, and to rely solely on official CBN communications for accurate updates on the financial sector.
Sidi-Ali concluded by emphasizing the CBN’s unwavering commitment to protecting the financial system and ensuring that depositors’ interests remain fully secured.
“The CBN remains vigilant and will continue to implement strategic measures that uphold confidence in Nigeria’s banking industry,” she said.
