FG Celebrates 25 Years Of Uninterrupted Democracy
As Nigeria nears its 64th Independence Day, the Federal Government has praised the country’s 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, emphasizing its significance in preserving freedom and liberty for future generations.
During a press briefing in Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, reflected on Nigeria’s resilience, strength, and progress since independence, despite facing numerous challenges. He acknowledged Nigeria’s rise as a leading force in Africa and a respected voice globally.
“Our unbroken democracy for 25 years is a testament to the will of the Nigerian people to maintain freedom for posterity,” Idris stated.
He also highlighted the economic and governance reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, including local government autonomy, the transition to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and efforts to stabilize the economy through tax and foreign exchange reforms.
Addressing education, Idris spoke about the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, established to make higher education more accessible. Despite economic challenges, he reassured Nigerians that current sacrifices would soon yield positive results.
The briefing also noted significant improvements in Nigeria’s security and the continued government support for small businesses.
Idris concluded by urging Nigerians to remain united and committed to building a strong nation, announcing the upcoming launch of the National Values Charter aimed at promoting moral, ethical, and cultural renewal.
The event, organized by the Inter-Ministerial Committee, marked the beginning of the celebrations leading up to Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1, 2024.
