Ibom Air Grounds Defiant Passenger For Life After Mid-Air Meltdown

Ibom Air has taken decisive action against a passenger involved in a violent onboard incident, declaring that she will no longer be allowed to fly on the airline’s aircraft.

The passenger, identified as Comfort Emmanson, was seen in a viral video engaging in disruptive and aggressive behaviour during a flight from Uyo to Lagos on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

According to Ireporter Online, the situation began shortly before take-off when Ms. Emmanson refused to comply with safety instructions to switch off her mobile phone, prompting intervention from a fellow passenger.

While the flight eventually departed as scheduled, tensions escalated upon arrival in Lagos. Ms. Emmanson allegedly launched a physical attack on the Purser, forcibly removing her wig and glasses, stepping on her, and repeatedly slapping her.

She also assaulted another cabin crew member and made an attempt to remove a fire extinguisher, which could have endangered the aircraft.

By the time security was alerted, the confrontation had intensified. According to Ireporter Online, the passenger resisted airport security personnel, attacking them and even slapping the airline’s ground supervisor.

She was subsequently restrained, removed from the aircraft, and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) security team.

Ibom Air, in its statement, confirmed that the incident had been reported to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and that Ms. Emmanson has been permanently banned from flying on any of its flights.

According to Ireporter Online, the airline reiterated its zero-tolerance stance towards unruly conduct that jeopardizes passenger and crew safety, promising the strongest possible consequences for such behaviour.

The company also commended its crew and security teams for their professionalism under challenging circumstances.
