The army’s operations, which include a variety of tactical strategies, also led to the arrest of 111 individuals involved in various criminal activities, such as oil theft. Additionally, 75 hostages were rescued during the operations. The army has been actively pursuing gunrunners and other extremists, with air support playing a significant role in reconnaissance and interdiction missions.
General Kangye also highlighted the launch of Operation Safe Corridor in the northwestern region of Nigeria, based in Tsafe, Zamfara State. The initiative aims to provide a pathway for the rehabilitation and reintegration of repentant terrorists willing to lay down their arms. This program, having already proven effective in the northeast with Boko Haram defectors, is now expanding to target the security challenges in the northwest, including states like Zamfara, Kebbi, and Katsina. The hope is that this initiative will significantly reduce violence and help reintegrate former combatants into society.
