Exclusive: Labour Party Denounces Senate’s Six-Month Suspension Of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

The Labour Party (LP) has strongly condemned the Nigerian Senate’s decision to suspend Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central) for six months, calling the move politically motivated and unjust. Ifoh acknowledged that the suspension stemmed from alleged breaches of Senate rules, but he stressed that the allegations of sexual harassment made by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio had not been properly investigated.

He also argued that the Senate’s action was illegal, pointing out that Akpoti-Uduaghan had not been granted a fair hearing, and that the Senate had ignored a court ruling that had blocked the suspension. Ifoh labeled the move as an abuse of power and a violation of the senator’s rights.

Furthermore, Ifoh raised concerns about the impact of the suspension on the people of Kogi Central, who would be without representation in the Senate for six months. He described the suspension as an attack on democracy and urged the Senate to reverse the decision to allow proper investigations into the allegations.

The Labour Party has called for the suspension to be lifted and for Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations to be properly addressed in accordance with democratic principles.
