Rochas: “I Feel Sorry For Those Peter Obi Misled Into Wasting Money On NDC
According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian businessman and social media commentator, Uche Rochas, has asserted that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, may not appear on the ballot for the 2027 general elections.
Rochas made the claim on Saturday while reacting to the ongoing controversy surrounding a recent Federal High Court judgment concerning the registration status of the NDC as a political party. The court ruling has continued to generate widespread debate among opposition figures and supporters of Obi, many of whom believe the decision could influence the party’s eligibility for the upcoming elections.
A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja had on Friday vacated its earlier decision that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party. Justice Isah Dashen, who delivered the ruling, explained that the initial judgment had negatively impacted the rights of the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which was not included as a party in the suit. The PMP had also laid claim to the logo being used by the NDC, a matter the court held should have been properly considered before the earlier order was issued.
The development has since triggered backlash, with some opposition groups alleging political interference aimed at weakening opposition platforms ahead of the 2027 elections. Supporters of Peter Obi have also voiced concerns over what they describe as attempts to frustrate the emergence of the NDC as a viable political platform for the presidential contest.
Amid the growing tension, Rochas, via a post on his handle on Saturday, insisted that Obi would not participate in the 2027 election. He further expressed sympathy for those he claimed were misled into investing time and resources in the NDC, adding that no refunds would be made.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the NDC nor Peter Obi had issued an official response to Rochas’ remarks.
