DSS Frees, Compensates Man Wrongly Accused Of Boko Haram Ties
According to Ireporter Online, the Department of State Services (DSS) has released a Kaduna State farmer and herder, Nura Idris, after an internal review established that there was no evidence linking him to Boko Haram activities.
The decision followed a directive from the Director-General of the DSS, Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, who ordered a comprehensive reassessment of the case. The review panel, after examining all available records and intelligence, reportedly found that the allegations against Idris could not be substantiated, leading to his immediate release.
Security sources disclosed that Idris, a native of Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was initially arrested in Suleja, Niger State, in June 2024 by another security agency over suspected ties to terrorist groups before being transferred to the DSS for further investigation.
Following the conclusion of the review, the DSS determined there was no justification for his continued detention. The agency subsequently approved his release and granted him ₦3 million in financial assistance to help him meet urgent needs and rebuild his livelihood, alongside a pledge to support the revival of his business.
Upon regaining his freedom, Idris expressed appreciation to the DSS leadership for clearing his name and providing financial support, stating that the gesture would help him restart his life. He also noted that he was treated fairly while in custody and offered prayers for the leadership of the agency.
His father, Yusuf Idris, who received him at home, also commended the DSS for his son’s release and the financial assistance, expressing confidence that the funds would be properly utilized.
