AAC Candidate Pulls Out Of Anambra Senate Race, Sparks Reactions
According to Ireporter Online, the former African Action Congress (AAC) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Chioma Ifemeludike, has withdrawn from the 2027 senatorial race, citing personal convictions and recent political developments as reasons for her decision.
Ifemeludike, who also holds the position of AAC Deputy National Chairperson for the South-East, formally communicated her withdrawal in a letter addressed to the party’s Acting National Chairperson. The letter, which was made available to journalists on Friday, confirmed her decision to step away from the senatorial contest despite having previously emerged as the party’s candidate through a consensus arrangement during the AAC primary election held in May.
In the correspondence, she informed the party’s National Working Committee that she no longer wished to pursue the Anambra Central senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections and requested that her name be expunged from all party records, processes, and activities linked to the ticket.
She explained that her decision followed careful reflection and was anchored on her personal principles, including her commitment to justice, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable members of society.
Ifemeludike further noted that recent events reinforced her resolve to withdraw from the race. She referenced concerns surrounding the handling of a matter involving Baby Testimony and the child’s physically challenged mother, suggesting that the situation raised questions about fairness and justice and contributed to her decision to step back from the political contest.
She added that the developments strengthened her resolve to focus more on advocacy for justice and accountability, rather than continuing her senatorial ambition. She again urged the party leadership to fully remove her name from all records and considerations relating to the Anambra Central senatorial ticket.
