APC Rules Out Any Review Of 2027 Primary Election Results

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded the compilation of its candidates for the 2027 general elections and has dismissed the possibility of any review of its recently concluded primary elections, despite protests and petitions from dissatisfied aspirants.

According to Punch, the ruling party has finalized the results of its primaries at its national secretariat and is currently preparing to forward the list of successful candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for official processing.

The decision effectively shuts out further appeals or demands for fresh primaries from aggrieved members who have alleged irregularities, including manipulation and imposition during the exercise.

A senior party official and a member of the National Working Committee (NWC), who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the party had no plans to alter or reopen the process.

“We are not reviewing the results of the primaries. The timeline for primaries and appeals has already elapsed. We are waiting for the code to upload the results of the winners of the primaries,” the official said.

“Everything has been concluded. We don’t know anything about the review they are talking about.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled June 26 for the issuance of access codes to its nomination portal, while July 11 remains the deadline for the submission of candidates’ details ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 54 serving federal lawmakers, including senators and members of the House of Representatives, reportedly lost their return tickets during the APC primaries held between May 16 and 18.

Several aggrieved aspirants across states such as Lagos, Delta, Zamfara, Kogi, Rivers, Plateau and Osun have since submitted petitions, threatened legal action, and demanded fresh primaries over alleged irregularities.

Responding to concerns about the party’s appeal panels, the APC chieftain said the reports did not significantly alter the outcome of the primaries, describing many of the petitions as baseless.

“From what I have seen, the appeal reports didn’t make any significant changes to the primary results because a lot of the petitions were found to be frivolous,” he said.

“But any appeal that was well made would have been considered. Some of the issues raised were zoning matters, which are pre-primary issues.

“Others involved clearance questions, such as claims that someone did not properly resign from the PDP before joining the APC. Are those grounds to challenge our primaries? These are examples of frivolous issues raised.”

The party also noted that most constituencies did not record appeals following the primaries, insisting that the final list of candidates is unlikely to differ from what has already been established.
